News on Brews 16 March 2009
Greetings,
It looks like the good-beer folks in Colorado are fine with homebrewing, fine with microbreweries (the mayor of Boulder founded a microbrewery), and even brewpubs… but real beer in a grocery store? No way!
Colorado’s HB 1192 defeated
March 13, 2009 8:54 AM
“Colorado’s HB 1192 was defeated yesterday. The House Business Affairs Committee killed the bill by a vote of 7-4. This bill would have allowed full strength beer to be sold in grocery stores. Many local brewers rallied to combat this bill and they were successful. It’s nice to know the Colorado craft beer lobby has some clout. No word yet if there is any victory micro brewing away in someone’s vat. I’ll keep my eye out.”

In New Orleans, Louisiana you don’t even have to know how to brew beer to open a brewery. The “Big Easy” gets another brewery while the “Big Apple” has only one, the Chelsea Brewing Company. (The other three city breweries are in Brooklyn.)

“His fledgling microbrewery, though, had an extra challenge: Coco didn’t know how to make beer.”

Boylan Bridge Brewpub Now Open
By C. Gregg 27.FEB.09
“When you first meet Andrew Leager, owner of the Boylan Bridge Brewpub, you feel welcome and comfortable, much like the atmosphere he’s aiming for at his new pub. You feel no sense of urgency, even though plans have been in progress for nearly five years. “It’ll open when it’s ready,” he says. For the many impatient Brewpub fans, that time has finally come.”
